Return to Zero: resolving regret through restorative action

Return to Zero: resolving regret through restorative action best serves those who:

  • feel stuck or spinning energy around a particular event, person, or relationship that persists over time
  • want to identify and release heavy burdens from past experiences or dreams unfulfilled
  • crave a supportive container to claim stories of regret and transform them into greater capacity for life
  • long for a clean slate to move forward from with lightness and ease

Regrets hold significant power. They can be heavy and cruel, weighing us down physically and energetically, keeping us small in our stories, unworthy of our gifts and uncertain in our values. At the same time, they can be unsung heroes - messengers carrying critical messages about what is ours to do, what matters to us most, and what unique skills and capacities we hold that are medicine for ourselves and the world.

Living with regret over time robs us of our ability to be present in the present. We may be drawn back in time - reliving past experiences, wishing they were different, trying to think of what we could have done, or should have said to produce more favorable outcomes. And/or we can be pulled forward into the future, riddled with anxiety or hyper-vigilance, working desperately to ensure that we don't make the same mistake twice, risk the same injury by self or others, or re-open or pour salt in a persisting wound.

The Return to Zero process recognizes that each person's landscape of regret is different and dynamic. Through a series of one-on-one sessions, we will work together to:

  • identify the specific events, experiences, and relationships that are sources of regret in your life
  • "map" one or more significant regrets so you can see what and how much they are taking away from your resources and capacity
  • tell the story of the regret(s)
  • claim your values and clarify your vision for the future
  • create a restorative action plan that identifies and grounds the specific action steps you want to take to resolve your regret(s), fulfill your vision, and live your values
  • build your capacity by celebrating milestones and fostering accountability to keep the momentum going over time
